Discovering the Motivations for Becoming a Member of E-Commerce Websites

This is a non-experimental group project for Research Methods for Human-Computer Interaction class. I worked on the concept development, data collection and data analisys.

 

ABSTRACT

The internet is changing the way people buy and sell goods and services. Past research has increased our understanding of the effectiveness of online advertising, brand loyalty and online purchasing trends. Currently, there is a lack of studies addressing the main motivational factors for becoming a member of an e-commerce website. This paper explores the main motivations for becoming a member various e-commerce websites. Participants of different ages, experience levels, nationalities, and genders were asked to complete an online survey that assessed their online shopping habits and motivations. Analysis shows that purchase intention is the strongest motivating factor of becoming a member of general online retailers. It also shows that limited time promotions motivate consumers to purchase products on deals based websites.
